Facebook and Google are planning to use the undersea cable to boost the internet speed by connecting South East Asia to North America.
Facebook Undersea Cable Project
The project is given to regional telecom companies who were aiming to supply faster Internet to Singapore and Indonesia.
This project is started after Facebook have successfully completed the project or using the undersea cables to connect the US to Hong Kong. Facebook has successfully installed similar cables like he wants to connect South East Asia to North America.
Facebook Undersea Cables Project project requires approval from regulatory governments and when they will get approval from regulatory the project will be started.
Echo and Bifrost will be the two cables to go through the java sea, this will increase the overall subsea capacity in the transpacific by about 70%.
The cables will first connect North America to the main parts of Indonesia said Facebook. Echo will be completed with a partnership with Google and Indonesia telecoms company XL Axiata by 2023 and Bifrost after a year later.
Use of Internet
Though more than 73% of the population of Indonesia uses the Internet the 73% of peoples are using the internet through mobile data.
According to the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association, less than 10% of the peoples are using the Internet through fixed-line broadband. Facebook Undersea cable help the peoples to access the Internet through broadband.
Facebook said that they have built 3,000 km (1,8641 miles) of fiber in Indonesia across 20 cities last year. They said that they have also installed wifi hotspots in that cities.
The tech giant would also continue efforts on the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN), Mr. Salvadori said.
“We are working with partners and regulators to meet all of the concerns that people have, and we look forward to that cable being a valuable, productive trans-Pacific cable,” he added.
Facebook Previous Efforts
The PLCN whose is funded by Facebook and Alphabet, Facebook, and Google thought to link the US, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
These plans were withdrawn last year because the government said to follow the National security due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Facebook said that they will still be working on them.
Facebook made a proposal with Amazon last year to connect San Francisco with Hong kong through Facebook Undersea Cable, but it was also abandoned.
Earlier this month, Facebook made a new scheme which was known as the Hong Kong-Americas project which was also dropped by Facebook because some concerns were going on between the US and Hong Kong. US government ordered to drop that project due to that concerns.
Facebook said that they will try again to link the US and Hong Kong with Facebook Undersea Cables which will meet US government concerns.
